Men's soccer drops OT heartbreaker to Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 by Blackburn in overtime on Saturday afternoon with six seconds to play in the first overtime session.

Greenville received its goal by Jared McPeek, his fourth of the season, with an assist from Juan Garcia in the 19th minute of the match.

The match remained 1-0 in Greenville's favor until Blackburn tied the contest in the 73rd minute before winning in the 100th minute.

Both teams had plenty of chances to score in the match. Greenville collected 20 shots, and Blackburn had 19 shots.

Greenville was led by Pablo Valverde with five shots, and Garcia posted four shot attempts.

Garcia and McPeek each provided two shots on target.

Pedro Vebber faced 19 shots by the Beavers and managed to collect eight saves.

The Panthers (4-6, 2-2 SLIAC) will host Principia in Greenville on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
