Men's soccer falls in 1-0 overtime decision at Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The men's soccer team suffered an excruciating 1-0 loss at Spalding on Wednesday in overtime.  Spalding scored in the 99th minute of the match on a penalty kick and jumped ahead of the Panthers in the conference standings.

The play in the match was extremely physical and emotions ran high throughout the match.  The teams combined for six cautions in the match - two yellows and a red for Spalding and three yellows for Greenville.  There were 25 fouls called in the match.

The red card by Spalding in the 39th minute of the match took one of their players off the field, and it showed at the end of the game in the shot differential between the two teams.

Greenville recorded 17 shots, and Spalding had 11 shots.  Greenville also held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Despite not breaking through with a goal, Greenville was led with two shots from Jared McPeek, Pablo Valverde, Juan Garcia, Luis Duran, and Jaime Torres.

GU goalkeeper Pedro Vebber faced 11 shots from Spalding and recorded four saves.

The Panthers (5-7, 3-3 SLIAC) travel to Fontbonne for a match on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m.
