Men's soccer season concludes at Spalding in SLIAC semis

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The men's soccer team fell in a 4-1 match at Spalding on Thursday night as their season ended at the hands of the Golden Eagles.

For the second time in three seasons, Greenville had to travel to Louisville for the semifinals and a match that ended their campaign.

The Golden Eagles received two goals in each half for the win.

Spalding scored early in the match's sixth minute and again in the 29th minute, taking a 2-0 lead to halftime.

In the 70th minute, Spalding increased their lead to 3-0, and Napoleon Urquidi answered Spalding's goal with a score of his own to break up the Spalding shutout and interject new life for the Panthers.

Shortly thereafter, the Golden Eagles added another goal to reestablish the three-goal advantage.

Greenville didn't hurt for scoring chances in the match, leading Spalding 13-10 in shots. Spalding's goalkeeper produced five saves, and GU goalkeeper Pedro Vebber collected three saves.

The Panthers concluded their season with an overall record of 12-9-1 (9-4-1 SLIAC) and a third place conference finish. The Panthers will await the announcement of the SLIAC all-conference team on Saturday.
