Men's soccer opens regular season with 2-1 loss against Rose-Hulman

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team kicked off their season with a 2-1 loss against Rose-Hulman on Friday evening at Francis Field.

Seventeen minutes into the first half, Rose-Hulman scored their first goal of the game and left the score at 1-0 going into halftime. The Panthers were outshot 8-2 in the first half.

The Fightin' Engineers tacked on another goal in the second half making it 2-0. Greenville fought back and scored late in the game. Edgar Barrientos had an unassisted goal in the 85th minute.

Going into the last five minutes of the game, the Panthers trailed 2-1. Greenville fought hard to tie up the game but came up short.

It was a scrappy game for both teams, ending with a total of five yellow cards. Greenville finished with three, and Rose-Hulman with two.

The Panthers had a total of five shots the whole game.

Hiram Cruz was in the net for Greenville and finished the game with two saves.

The Panthers (0-1) will host Central (Iowa) on Monday at 1 p.m.
