Men's soccer takes 1-0 win at Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The men's soccer team trumped the undefeated Titans on Tuesday evening. The Panthers topped Illinois Wesleyan 1-0. 

Greenville outshot Ill. Wesleyan 10-9 in the first half. Jose Elias Fernandez and Jaime Torres each had three shots, accounting for the majority of Greenville's shots in the first 45 minutes. 

Although the Panthers had multiple scoring opportunities, the scoreboard read 0-0 at halftime. 

Greenville had seven more shots in the second half. In the 57th minute, Pablo Valverdo scored on a penalty kick, putting the Panthers on top. 

The Titans weren't able to balance the score, and the contest ended 1-0 in Greenville's favor. 

Jaime Sainz performed well in the net for the Panthers, completing the match with five saves. 

The Panthers (3-2) return home to face Wisconsin-Whitewater at Francis Field on Friday at 4 p.m.
