Men's soccer drops 3-1 decision at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The men’s soccer team came home with a 3-1 loss after traveling to Monmouth College on Wednesday afternoon.

Greenville outshot Monmouth 9-2 in the first half but was not able to score a goal.

The Scots scored their first goal in the 22nd minute and sent the Panthers into halftime trailing 1-0.

Greenville outshot the Scots again in the second half (7-5). However, Monmouth managed to score again in the 56th and 63rd minutes, making it 3-0.

With less than thirty seconds left in the game, Santiago Sandoval scored for the Panthers with an assist from Joaquin Caceres. The game ended 3-1.

Jose Elias Fernandez was another offensive leader for Greenville with five shots during the game.

Jaime Sainz and Hiram Cruz split time in the net for Greenville. Sainz played the first half, allowing only one goal. Cruz played the second forty-five minutes and had two saves.

The Panthers (3-5) hit the road again to face Fontbonne in their first conference matchup on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
