Men's soccer gives MUW 4-1 defeat

COLUMBUS, Miss. - The men's soccer team completed regular season play with a 4-1 win over MUW on Saturday.

The Panthers quickly gained the lead after Benn Jane scored their first goal within the first minute with an assist from Jose Elias Fernandez

The Owls tied it up in the 8th minute, and the score remained 1-1 going into halftime. 

Jane had his second goal of the day in the 54th minute, giving Greenville the lead again. 

Pablo Valverde and Moritz Gruenig put up two more goals in the half, resulting in the 4-1 win for the Panthers. 

Greenville did well offensively, outshooting the Owls 18-7.

Hiram Cruz was in the net for the majority of the game and had three saves. Alvaro Marchal took over in the 83rd minute and had one save. Cruz was awarded with the win. 

The Panthers (8-7-4, 4-1-4 SLIAC) placed fourth in the standings and will hold the No. 3 seed in the SLIAC tournament that starts on Tuesday with a match against Eureka in Greenville.
