Greenville joins other SLIAC tennis members with associate membership in UMAC

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced Thursday that the Council of Presidents and Chancellors has approved the addition of Greenville University as one of four institutions requesting associate membership in men's and women's tennis beginning with the 2023 spring season.

All four associate members are full members of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) and also include Principia College, Webster University, and Westminster College. Greenville and Westminster already compete in the UMAC as associate members in football.

"The addition of these four associate member institutions for men's and women's tennis will contribute to the continued development of UMAC tennis and ensure access to the NCAA Division III Championships for our tennis programs," said UMAC Commissioner Corey Borchardt. "We are looking forward to enhancing the UMAC postseason tournament championship experience for our tennis student-athletes."

The UMAC will have 10 institutions sponsoring both men's and women's tennis in 2023 with the addition of Greenville, Principia, Webster, and Westminster.

North Central University, a full member of the UMAC, will no longer sponsor men's and women's tennis.

Six full UMAC members will continue men's and women's tennis in 2023 including Bethany Lutheran College, Crown College, Martin Luther College, University of Minnesota Morris, University of Northwestern, and University of Wisconsin-Superior. The UMAC will retain its automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Championships for both men's and women's tennis.

The expansion of men's and women's tennis will allow for two divisions with the six full UMAC members competing in the North Division and the four associate UMAC members competing in the South Division. Members of each division will not be required to compete against institutions in the opposing division during the regular season.

The top two teams in each set of divisional standings at the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the UMAC postseason tournament. The 2023 UMAC postseason tournament will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the Baseline Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29.

Additional details regarding conference schedules, postseason tournament/championship, and awards will be announced prior to the start of the 2022-2023 academic year.
