Men's tennis tops HCAC champion Rose-Hulman

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The men's tennis team completed the regular season with their 18th victory, topping Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champion Rose-Hulman in a convincing 8-1 win.

Greenville opened the match with a 2-1 lead after the completion of doubles play, receiving an 8-2 win from the No. 1 duo of Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez and an 8-4 victory from the No. 3 team of Austin Burkhart and Matt Lehr.

In singles, No. 1 Sanchez, No. 3 Clark Kent, No. 4 Luke Motsinger, and No. 6 Thibaut Tignee picked up wins in a third set tiebreaker. Sanchez, Kent, and Motsinger eased to a 10-4 victory in the tiebreaker, but it took Tignee some extra time before wrapping up his win with an 11-9 advantage in the final set.

No. 2 Rodriguez and No. 5 Burkhart earned straight set wins. Rodriguez was a 6-2, 6-3 winner, and Burkhart came out on top 6-3, 6-4.

The Panthers (18-2) will play for the SLIAC championship on Friday, May 6, against the winner of Webster and Principia.
