Men's tennis performs admirably in 5-3 loss to Illinois Tech in NCAA tournament

CHICAGO, Ill. - The men's tennis team competed in their first NCAA national tournament and battled Illinois Tech in a four hour match before eventually dropping the match 5-3 in the first round.

Greenville's No. 1 player Andres Sanchez was a part of two GU wins. He teamed up with Rafael Rodriguez for an 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles before winning his No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets.

No. 3 Clark Kent went to a tiebreaker in the first set before winning the tiebreak 7-1, but he couldn't close out the win with 7-5 and 6-2 losses in the next two sets .

No. 6 Thibaut Tignee cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win.

The Panthers (19-3) represented the SLIAC well before the Panthers and other SLIAC members join the UMAC as an affiliate next season. Greenville's showing was the most successful of any SLIAC team in the NCAA men's tennis tournament.
