Men's tennis splits Saturday matches

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The men's tennis team played Piedmont and Ohio Northern on Saturday at Transylvania. The men dropped their match to Piedmont 8-1 before winning their match against Ohio Northern 5-4.

Greenville's opening match resulted in a win at No. 1 doubles when Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez earned an 8-1 win.

Similar to Friday, the Panthers had several singles matches go to a third set tiebreaker before their opponents won. No. 1 Sanchez, No. 2 Rodriguez, No. 3 Clark Kent, and No. 6 Santiago Jaimes all went to three sets before falling in the decision.

Against Ohio Northern, the Panthers moved into the singles portion trailing 2-1, but Greenville managed to win four of their six singles matches.

The No. 3 doubles team of Jean Rigaud Sanabria and Thibaut Tignee won 8-7.

In singles, No. 1 Sanchez gave the Panthers a 6-2, 6-1 win, No. 5 Sanabrian won 7-6, 7-5, and No. 6 Tignee provided a 6-4, 6-3 win.

No. 2 Rodriguez posted a 3-6, 6-3, 12-10 victory in a tiebreaker.

The Panthers (3-2) return to action on Feb. 24 in a tri-match at Albion in Michigan.
