Men's tennis records Saturday split

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday. They dropped a 5-4 decision to Central in the day's first match before topping Illinois Wesleyan 6-3.

The Panthers went into singles facing a 2-1 deficit against Central and split the six singles matches.

Greenville's No. 3 doubles team of Dylan Collins and Andres Sanchez earned an 8-2 win.

In singles, No. 1 Sanchez won 6-2, 6-0.

No. 3 Luke Motsinger took a 6-2, 6-3 decision, and No. 4 Jean Rigaud Sanabria gained a 6-1, 6-4 win.

In a sign of the competitive nature of the match, No. 2 Clark Kent and No. 5 Thibaut Tignee lost in a deciding tiebreaker.

Against Illinois Wesleyan, the Panthers flipped the doubles outcome with wins by the No. 1 team of Kent and Motsinger and the No. 3 duo of Sanchez and Collins. Kent and Motsinger were 8-5 winners, and Sanchez and Collins triumphed 8-3.

No. 3 Motsinger and No. 4 Sanabria won by identical 6-1, 6-2 scores.

No. 2 Kent took his match 6-3, 5-7, 10-6, and No. 1 Sanchez won when his opponent retired.

The Panthers (5-4) will now prepare for their spring trip to Hilton Head, S.C., which begins against Carroll on March 11.
