In Memory of Dr. Dave Holden

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Greenville University and its Athletic Department is saddened by the unexpected passing of Dr. Dave Holden who died on Monday evening at the age of 60. Holden held appointments at Greenville University as an assistant men's and women's track and field coach, dean of graduate and adult studies, senior advisor to the president, and cabinet member.

On the track, Coach Holden specialized in the area of hurdles. He coached at the high school level for years while also assisting the East St Louis Summer track program. He was head cross country coach at Greenville High School.

Prior to his current duties at Greenville University, he served as Greenville University's faculty athletic representative and compliance officer and represented Greenville on the administrative council of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).

"Dave has been an integral part of our academic leadership team and his large presence has sustained many of us in our time of need," said Dr. Brian T. Hartley, dean of the faculty and chief academic officer.  "I would ask that you honor Dave's commitment to Christ and love for the institution by reaching out to one another today and reminding your co-workers of your love for them and of their intrinsic worth in God's sight, just as Dave did with so many of us."

As a student-athlete, he competed in both football and track at the University of Southern California (USC), where he was a member of the 1985 Rose Bowl Champions. Dave was honored as a David L. Marks Scholar Athlete and received the John Wayne Graduate Scholarship awarded by the Trojan Football Alumni Club.
