Emily Thebeau Butler returns to Greenville as head men's volleyball coach

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Greenville University men's volleyball program will return to the H.J. Long Gymnasium floor in January 2025 under the direction of Emily Thebeau Butler who was named the program's new head coach.  Butler will spend the 2023-24 year recruiting to build a program that will bring a squad of new student-athletes to campus in Fall 2024.

Butler, a former volleyball student-athlete and assistant coach at Greenville, spent four years and three seasons as the head volleyball coach at Monmouth College where she led the team to its first Midwest Conference tournament appearance in nine years. She also served as senior woman administrator.

Each season, the Scots won 11 or more matches, reaching a high of 15 wins in 2021. Their 2021 record of 15-14 marked the program's first winning season since 2012.

In all three seasons, her Monmouth volleyball teams earned All-Academic status from the AVCA.

A four-year member of the Greenville volleyball team as a setter and defensive specialist, Butler played in two NCAA national tournaments and served as an assistant coach for two seasons when the Panthers qualified for the NCAA national tournament.

Butler has been active with club volleyball in the St. Louis and Quad Cities areas and participates in various camps and clinics.

Butler, of DeSoto, Mo., earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Greenville in 2017 and a master's degree in business administration at GU in 2019.

She and her husband Brandon have been married since April 2022.
