Estrada's 21st place finish helps men's cross country to 13th at NCAA regionals

AURORA, Ill. - An outstanding November run from Gianni Estrada earned the 21st place position at the NCAA Division III midwest regional and helped the Panthers to a 13th place finish, one position better than their 14th place showing at last year's regional.

The Panthers produced 363 points at the meet and were 13 points behind 12th place Augustana. The 14th place team, Grinnell, posted 421 points. North Central won the regional with 41 points.

Estrada's time of 25:33.5 was the best score of any runner whose team did not finish in the top 10. Estrada will now be considered when the NCAA Division III releases its national championship qualifiers. If he qualifies for the nationals, he will become Greenville's first qualifier since Josh Martsolf in 2005.

Also helping comprise Greenville's team score were Kaleb Carlson and Joe Gomez who finished together in 26:45, taking 62nd and 63rd places.

Jeremiah Perry was 101st in 27:30, and Isaiah Atkins was GU's final scorer in 122nd place (27:53).

The Panthers will now wait to see if Estrada will run next Saturday at Olivet (Mich.) in the NCAA Division III nationals.
