Softball falls in doubleheader at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The softball team dropped a doubleheader at Maryville on Friday, falling 9-7 in game one and 10-0 in game two.

The Panthers fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of game one but scored once in the second and two in the third for a 3-2 lead.

Maryville added a run in the bottom of the third to tie the game, but Greenville went back on top with three runs in the top of the fifth. After the Scots made the score 6-4 in the fifth, Greenville added a run in the top of the sixth to establish a 7-4 lead. However, Maryville posted a five run bottom of the sixth to gain the runs they needed to win.

Madi Case and Desirae Yost both went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Mia Boyd provided a 2-for-4 performance.

Alison Klaus pitched 5.1 innings, allowing seven runs, five earned, on five hits. Chesleigh Pugh relieved Klaus in the sixth inning and permitted two unearned runs.

In game two, Maryville took the lead in the bottom of the first and added three runs in the third and six in the fourth to gain a five-inning 10-0 win.

Case and Erin Toole each had one hit for Greenville.

Boyd pitched 3.2 innings, allowing 10 runs, three earned, on seven hits.

The Panthers (0-6) will play Maryville on Saturday in another doubleheader.
