Softball splits doubleheader with Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The softball team split a doubleheader with Franklin on Saturday afternoon, dropping game one 11-6 before dominating game two with a 15-3 win.

Franklin took the early advantage in game one, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Panthers scored a run in the top of the second inning on Kaitlyn Carlson's sacrifice fly.

Franklin added six runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 9-1, but the Panthers answered with four runs in the top of the second on an RBI single from Madi Case and a three-run home run from Desirae Yost.

After Franklin tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth, Greenville added a run in the top of the seventh when Mia Boyd walked with the bases loaded.

Alison Klaus opened the game in the circle and permitted eight runs on eight hits and four walks in three innings.

Chesleigh Pugh worked three innings of relief, giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits and three walks.

Morgan Wendling, Yost, and Case all finished the game 2-for-4.

In game two, Greenville took control with five runs over the first two innings and never trailed.

Franklin added a run in the bottom of the third, but Greenville matched the Grizzlies with a run in the top of the fourth.

Franklin made the score 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the sixth, the Panthers exploded for nine runs and held Franklin scoreless to end the game in six innings.

Melissa Bernal pitched the six innings complete game, allowing three runs on seven hits.

Case finished the game 5-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI.

Megan Chapman was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI while Emma Deters was 2-for-3, scoring two runs and driving in three runs.

The Panthers (2-8) continue their season on March 12 at Rose-Hulman.
