Softball collects sweep over Westminster

GREENVILLE, Ill. - After splitting eight of their nine most recent doubleheaders, the softball team pieced together a doubleheader sweep for the first time in the 2022 season on Thursday afternoon. In two games with innings reduced due to the eight-run rule, Greenville scored nine runs in each game and took 9-0 and 9-1 victories over Westminster.

Mia Boyd finished as Greenville's offensive leader in game one, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI including a two-run homer in the bottom of the third. Madi Case went 2-for-3 from the leadoff position with a run scored and two RBI.

Melissa Bernal worked the complete game in the circle, picking up the shutout and allowing four hits and one walk.

In game two, Greenville scored in every inning from the third inning until the conclusion of the game, taking another win in a shortened game.

No. 5 hitter Jaclyn Belzer was 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI while Case went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Belzer's single in the bottom of the sixth ended the game.

Katie Woodruff hit safely in 2-of-3 at bats with two runs and two RBI.

Greenville established their lead in the third inning of game two and pitcher Alison Klaus received all the run support she needed, only allowing one unearned run on four hits. She struck out four and also reached base safely in the game by collecting a hit in three at bats.

The Panthers (10-16, 4-4 SLIAC) travel to Principia for a doubleheader on Saturday before a showdown with Webster on Monday.
