Softball eases to doubleheader sweep at Principia

ELSAH, Ill. - The softball team rolled to 16-0 and 17-0 wins over Principia on Saturday afternoon.

In game one, the Panthers recorded a run in the first, five in the second, four in the third, and six in the fifth innings as they took the shutout win.

Melissa Bernal and Taylor Weiss combined to pitch a one-hitter. Bernal worked the first three innings, and Weiss finished the game with two innings.

Eight of Greenville's nine hitters had multiple hit games, led by Desirae Yost and Mia Boyd who both went 3-for-4.

Madi Case hit safely in two of her five at bats, and she tripled both times as she drove in five runs.

Mia Boyd added four RBI, and Erin Toole went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI.

The Panthers used a different lineup in game two but received a similar result. Once again, the Panthers pitched a one-hitter.

Chesleigh Pugh stared the game and worked four innings in the circle, permitting one hit and two walks while fanning five batters with strikeouts.

Boyd hit 3-for-4 with three runs scores, three RBI, and a home run.

Yost and Case also added three hits.

Katie Woodruff posted a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored a four RBI.

The Panthers (12-16, 6-4 SLIAC) will play at Webster on Monday afternoon.
