Softball sweeps Lawrence with two short games at home

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The softball team beat Lawrence in two five-inning games on Saturday. The Panthers won the first game 10-0 and took game two 15-4.

GU quickly hopped on top in the first game. They scored three runs in the bottom of the first, tacked on two more in the bottom of the third, and sealed it with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

They held Lawrence to zero runs and only one hit.  

Greenville strung together nine hits, led by Natalee Moore. Moore went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, two runs, and a stolen base.

Madi Case also went 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and a stolen base. Sarah Salas had a 2-for-2 performance with two runs and one RBI.

Sydnee Garrett was in the circle again for the Panthers, pitching four innings. Garrett only allowed one hit and one walk and struck out six batters. Destiny Dunlap came in for relief in the fifth inning. Dunlap faced four batters with one walk and one strikeout.

In the second game, Lawrence took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Panthers responded well with 14 hits and 15 runs throughout the game.

Greenville's offense in the second game was led by Moore again with a 3-for-3 game. Moore had two runs and three RBIs.

Josie Grunloh also had a stellar performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Case had another notable offensive appearance for game two. She went 2-for-3 again with three runs, three RBIs, one walk, and another stolen base.

Valerie Greenley started game two for the Panthers, pitching four innings and striking out six batters. Melissa Bernal pitched the fifth inning and had one strikeout.

The Panthers (4-0) travel to Rose-Hulman on Saturday to play a doubleheader at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
