Softball returns home from Monmouth with two wins

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The softball team traveled north to face the Fighting Scots. The Panthers returned home with two wins.

Greenville took game one in six innings. They beat Monmouth 14-6 with 15 hits. The Panthers came out of the gate hot, scoring three runs in the top of the first. The Scots responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. However, GU triumphed over them with 11 more runs later in the game.

The Panthers were led offensively by Madi Case once again. Case went 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs, and four runs. She had a double and a triple in game one.

Sydnee Garrett received her fourth win of the season against the Scots, throwing five innings. She allowed six runs and three walks but struck out two batters.

Melissa Bernal came in for relief in the sixth inning. She faced four batters and didn't allow any hits or runs.

In game two, Greenville had a similar offensive start. They scored three runs in the top of the first, added three in the third, and another insurance run in the fourth. The Panthers won 7-0 with 12 hits.

Jamey Johnson and Megan Chapman led the team at the plate in game two. They both went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Valerie Greenley dominated in the circle for game two. She pitched a full seven innings, had three strikeouts, and only allowed two hits.

The Panthers (10-2) face Harris-Stowe at home on Tuesday at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
