Softball takes two in doubleheader against Harris-Stowe

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team hosted Harris-Stowe for a late-afternoon doubleheader on Tuesday. The Panthers short-gamed the Hornets in both games, ending both in five innings. GU took game one 16-2 and game two 8-0. 

In game one, Greenville started off strong with ten runs in the first inning. Harris-Stowe attempted a comeback in the third inning with two runs, but the Panthers scored six more in the bottom of the fourth. 

GU collected 19 hits in game one, led by catcher, Natalee Moore. Moore went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. 

The Panthers had doubles from Sydnee Garrett, Sarah Salas, and Emma Williams. Melissa Bernal pinch hit in the bottom of the fourth and hit a two-run homer for GU. 

Garrett started in the circle for the Panthers. She pitched four innings, allowing only two hits and one walk. Garrett had five strikeouts and no earned runs. Destiny Dunlap relieved Garrett in the fifth inning to face four batters. Dunlap struck out two batters and walked one. Garrett was awarded the win. 

The Panthers had a slower start in the second game. The game was scoreless for 2.5 innings until Greenville put eight runs on the board in the bottom of the third. The score remained 8-0 for the five-inning finish.

Josie Grunloh led Greenville at the plate in game two. Grunloh hit lead-off for the Panthers and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Madi Case wasn't too far behind with a 2-for-3 appearance, two RBIs, and one run.

Case had an impressive day on the bases with six stolen bases.

Valerie Greenley threw for game two. She was in the circle for the first four innings, striking out three batters, walking one, and only allowing one hit. Salas came in for the top of the fifth and had two strikeouts. Greenley received the win for game two. 

The Panthers (12-2) travel to Rose-Hulman on Thursday for a 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. doubleheader.
