Softball concludes their season after loss against WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The softball team's season came to an end on Friday evening after facing a defeat from Washington-St. Louis in an NCAA regional elimination game. The Panthers put up a fight but unfortunately lost 11-4.

The Bears quickly got up 11-0 after the first four innings, but Greenville persevered and collected four runs in the bottom of the fifth to continue the game.

The Panthers capitalized on a few errors and walks from WashU and a single from Natalee Moore to put runners in scoring position. Then, a fielder's choice groundball from Melissa Bernal and a center-field double from Sydnee Garrett allowed four runners to cross home plate.

Unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to score any more runs the rest of the game and left the score at 11-4.

Natalee Moore led the team in hits, going 2-for-4 with one run. Garrett, Josie Grunloh, and Sarah Salas all had one hit each, adding to Greenville's five total hits.

The Panthers threw almost their whole pitching staff at the Bears. Garrett, Salas, Valerie Greenley, Bernal, and Destiny Dunlap all shared time on the mound.

Greenville ended their season with 35 wins and an incredible run in the postseason. The Panthers made history this year, breaking the Greenville softball single-season wins record since joining the NCAA and being the first Greenville team to have an NCAA tournament win.
