LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The women's basketball team recorded their first win of the young season with a 60-57 victory over Brevard at Covenant's Mountaintop Madness Classic.
The Panthers recovered from a 13-2 first quarter deficit to gain the win.
After a dismal showing in the first quarter, Greenville bounced back in the second quarter and tightened the score to 26-18 going into halftime.
Brevard extended the lead again with a 20-18 third quarter to take a 46-36 advantage into the final period.
However, Greenville erupted for 24 fourth quarter points, highlighted by Abigail Reinneck's seven points and Madelyn Stephen's six points, and their defense held Brevard to a 4-of-15 shooting performance as Greenville took the win.
In the final quarter, the Panthers tied the game at 49-all with a 13-3 run over the first 6:15 of the stanza, and outscored Brevard 11-8 over the final 3:45 to collect the win.
Emily Reinneck ended the contest as Greenville's top scorer with 18 points. She made 4-of-12 shots from the field and 10-of-10 free throws. She was also the team leader with a line of 10 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals.
Ashley Anderson ended with a 10 point outing.
The Panthers (1-2) will face Covenant on Saturday. Covenant is led by head coach Skylar Bareford who was an assistant coach at Greenville University before taking the Covenant lead position four years ago.
