Women's basketball breaks skid versus William Woods with fourth straight season win

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team defeated William Woods 83-61 on Thursday night at H.J. Long Gymnasium, marking GU's first win against WWU since the teams began meeting for an annual non-conference contest in January 2018.

The Panthers and Owls did not meet during the 2020-21 season due to playing a limited schedule.

After falling behind 18-15 after the first quarter, GU took the halftime lead 37-33.

Greenville extended their lead with a dominant third quarter that saw them outscore William Woods 24-13 to establish a 61-46 lead heading into the final period.

In the last quarter, Greenville outpaced William Woods 22-15.

The Panthers received a balanced scoring attack from its roster with five players reaching 10 or more points.

Madelyn Stephen and Haven Robertson finished as GU's high scorers with 16 points in the game. Ashley Anderson and Emily Reinneck each provided 13 points, and Abigail Reinneck added 10 points.

The Panthers passed the ball well and constantly found the open shooter, collecting 18 assists. Robertson held the team-high with six assists.

The Panthers (4-2) host Lincoln Christian on Monday night at 5:30 p.m. in H.J. Long Gymnasium.
