Women's basketball drops 89-47 contest at Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The women's basketball team played without the services of four starters due to COVID protocols on Saturday afternoon and felt their absence with a 89-47 defeat by Fontbonne.

Fontbonne managed to outscore the Panthers in three of the four quarters, building a 24-14 lead after the first quarter and a 42-20 advantage at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Griffins did the most damage, bettering GU 34-13, and opening up a 76-33 lead.

Greenville posted a fourth quarter effort in which they led Fontbonne 14-13, but the deficit was insurmountable.

Jovanna Oliva had an active role in Greenville's offensive effort with 12 points. She knocked down 4-of-13 shot attempts and 4-of-8 three pointers.

Ally Cantrill added seven assists, four steals, and five rebounds in 37 minutes of action.

Morris tallied the team-high with seven rebounds.

The Panthers (7-5, 1-1 SLIAC) will host Westminster on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in H.J. Long Gymnasium.
