Women's basketball falls to Blackburn

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team was handed an 84-66 loss by Blackburn on Saturday afternoon in H.J. Long Gymnasium. Blackburn took control of the game with a 36-18 third quarter advantage that flipped the score from a narrow Greenville advantage at halftime to a game clearly controlled by the Beavers.

After the first quarter, Blackburn was leading by a bucket with a 14-12 lead, but Greenville outscored the Beavers 15-12 in the second quarter to take a 27-26 lead at halftime.

The Panthers were unable to recover from the third quarter, and Blackburn added a point to their lead with a 22-21 edge in the fourth quarter.

Emily Reinneck and Madelyn Stephen were GU's leaders in offensive production. Reinneck produced 19 points despite a difficult 6-of-17 shooting performance, including a 1-of-8 mark behind the three point arc. She made all six of her free throws. Reinneck also contributed a team-high nine rebounds and five steals.

Stephen added 16 points, and Ally Cantrill distributed a team-high four assists.

Overall, GU's 30.1 percent shooting clip proved to be their downfall. Blackburn made over 50 percent of their shot attempts.

The Panthers (7-7, 1-3 SLIAC) will travel to Eureka on Tuesday for a game at 5:30 p.m.
