Women's basketball gains SLIAC road win over Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. - The women's basketball team defeated Eureka 79-64 on Tuesday night on the road, picking up a critical conference road victory that leads them into a showdown with Webster in Greenville on Thursday night.

The Panthers faced a deficit of 20-12 after the first quarter and trailed 33-29 at halftime.

Greenville exploded for 33 points in the third quarter, making 13-of-19 field goal attempts, 2-of-5 three pointers, and 5-of-6 free throws to open up a 62-43 lead.

The Panthers received 10 of Madelyn Stephen's team-high 18 points in the third quarter and nine of Haven Robertson's 17 points in the same frame.

Eureka outscored the Panthers by one in the fourth quarter, but GU had the cushion they needed to easily absorb the difference.

In addition to Stephen's 18 points and Robertson's 17 points, Ashley Anderson added 18 points as well.

Payten Morris nearly had a double-double off the bench, producing 13 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.

Ally Cantrill passed out six assists in the game, and Robertson was effective on defense with four steals.

The Panthers (8-7, 2-3 SLIAC) host Webster on Thursday night in Greenville as the undefeated Gorloks visit H.J. Long Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
