Women's basketball drops SLIAC tournament semifinal against Westminster, all-conference honors released

WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. - The women's basketball season concluded with a 75-59 loss against Westminster in the semifinals of the SLIAC tournament hosted by Webster.

The Blue Jays took the early edge in the contest, scoring nine of the game's first 11 points. After four straight points from Greenville, capped by a jumper by Payten Morris, Westminster called a 30 second timeout with 5:29 remaining in the first quarter despite being on top 9-6.

At the end of the first quarter, the Blue Jays led Greenville 16-14.

The Panthers continued to play from behind throughout the second quarter and ended the period facing a 35-26 deficit.

In the third quarter, the Blue Jays scored the first four points and forced the Panthers to call a 30 second timeout to recalibrate.

The Panthers responded to the timeout with buckets from Ashley Anderson and Madelyn Stephen to immediately shave four points from Westminster's 13 point edge, but the third quarter ended with Westminster on top 59-43.

In the fourth quarter, Westminster played from a double-figure lead throughout the quarter and settled for the 16 point margin of victory.

Emily Reinneck finished the game as Greenville's top scorer, posting a team-high 14 points. She made 4-of-11 field goal attempts and 6-of-7 free throws.

Madelyn Stephen gave GU 13 points and team-highs with eight rebounds and four assists. Reinneck was the team leader with two steals.

The Panthers (15-11) finished the 2021-22 season in third place in the SLIAC standings with a conference record of 8-6.

Notes: All-Conference Honors released
The Panthers were represented by three individuals on the SLIAC all-conference team, and the squad was chosen by the conference coaches as the team that best exemplified the qualities of team sportsmanship for the ninth time. Of all conference teams, Greenville was the only squad to not receive a technical foul this season.

Reinneck was named to the SLIAC first team, and Stephen received second team honors. In addition, Ally Cantrill received honors on the all-sportsmanship team.
