Women's basketball rolls to 21 point victory against Eureka

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team did their part to set up a showdown with Webster for first place in the SLIAC standings with a 79-58 win over Eureka in H.J. Long Gymnasium on Saturday.

The Panthers only defeated Eureka by four points earlier in the season, but they outplayed Eureka in Saturday's matchup, taking a 23-15 lead after the first quarter.

At halftime, GU led 45-28, and the Panthers had a 63-38 advantage after three quarters.  EC outscored Greenville 20-16 in the final stanza.

Savana Powell-Goodman led the Panthers with 16 points in the win. Emily Reinneck added 14 points, and Ally Cantrill contributed 11 points.

The Panther defense was impressive. GU forced 32 Eureka turnovers and had 20 steals. Carolina Hoffman paced GU with six steals.

GU had three players - Abigail Reinneck, Sophia Cisneros, and Hoffman - with five rebounds.

Greenville also collected 22 assists, led by Madelyn Stephen with six.

The Panthers (14-5, 7-1 SLIAC) play Webster on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. in Greenville.
