Women's basketball stumbles in return to action against Centre

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team experienced a roller coaster ride in Saturday's contest against Centre. The Panthers led 19-2 after the first quarter, but Centre came back to tie the game at halftime before finishing the game with a 55-43 defeat over the Panthers.

In their first game back after the Christmas break, the Panthers received 14 points from Carolina Hoffman and eight by Savana Powell-Goodman in the effort.

GU made 14-of-47 shot attempts from the field and 3-of-11 three-pointers. They shot an incredible 12-of-13 from the free throw line.

The teams were tied at 26-all at halftime, and Centre established a 38-30 lead after three quarters. CC outscored GU 17-13 in the fourth quarter.

Cortney Brummer ended with five rebounds to lead GU.

Hoffman and Powell-Goodman collected four steals, and Powell-Goodman tallied two assists.

The Panthers (5-6) will host Principia on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in their next matchup.
