Women's soccer slips to second against first place Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - In an early season matchup of SLIAC favorites, the women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 match at Fontbonne, their first SLIAC loss of the season.

The first half ended with the score at 1-0 in favor of the Griffins as the Panthers outshot Fontbonne 4-3.

The Griffins posted their goal in the sixth minute of the game off a cross.

In the second half, Fontbonne increased their lead to 2-0 in the 58th minute with a goal past goalkeeper Addison Miller into the bottom right corner of the net.

Greenville played the more physical match, picking up 10 fouls in comparison to five from Fontbonne.

Unfortunately, Greenville did not have any shots in the second half and ended with a 10-4 deficit in shots. Fontbonne had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Panthers received shots in the match from Samantha De La Cruz, Alexis Roberts, Jen De Leon De Leon, and Idaly Valenzuela.

Goalkeeper Miller produced four saves for the Panthers.

The Panthers (4-3-1, 3-1 SLIAC) host Westminster on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on Francis Field.
