Women's soccer held at bay by Fontbonne in 2-0 loss

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The women’s soccer team was defeated 2-0 by the Griffins on Saturday afternoon. 

Early in the game, Fontbonne attempted a shot on goal in the 7th minute, but Addison Miller saved it. Greenville responded quickly with a shot of their own by Vanessa Ramirez in the 8th minute. Ramirez’s shot was unfortunately blocked.

Katelyn Christensen also had a shot on goal in the first half, but it was saved by Fontbonne’s keeper.  

Fontbonne put up a goal in the 21st minute, and Greenville was unable to match it. The Panthers went into halftime with a 1-0 deficit.

The Griffins scored again in the 61st minute. Angie Stedman tried helping the Panthers come back in the second half with two shots on goal. However, both were saved.

In the 71st minute, Greenville had a close scoring opportunity when Alexis Romeo took a corner kick that set up Sam De La Cruz for a header shot. The ball just missed the net.

Greenville was outshot by Fontbonne 20-5, but Addison Miller defended the Panther’s net well with six saves.

The Panthers (1-4-3) travel to Central (Iowa) to face the Dutch at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
