Women's tennis splits two SLIAC matches

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The women's tennis team split their matches against Webster and Westminster on Saturday. The Panthers fell 5-4 to Webster in their opening match before topping Westminster 9-0.

In the match against Webster, the Panthers fell behind 3-0 after dropping all three doubles matches, but the No. 1 duo of Mireia Birosta and Addison Brannon managed to force a tiebreaker before falling 8-7 (7-4).

Greenville won four of the six singles matches, splitting four three-set matches with each school victorious in two matches, and the Panthers won the two other singles matches in straight sets.

No. 2 Brannon took a 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 win, and No. 4 Claudia Principal dropped the first set 6-2 before taking 6-3, 6-3 wins in the second and third sets.

No. 5 Emily Buratovich won 6-1, 7-6 (7-2), and No. 6 Stephanie Kamp came away with a 6-3, 7-5 win.

The Panthers cruised to a 9-0 win in the second match, winning five matches by default. The No. 1 doubles team consisted of Shaling Reynolds and Brannon, and they won 8-0. This was the only doubles match contested because Westminster only had three players.

The Panthers (7-7, 1-1 SLIAC) will play at Principia at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday before competing at Millikin on April 23 against Elmhurst.
