Women's track and field takes second at Principia

ELSAH, Ill. - The women's track and field team returned to action at an indoor meet at Principia on Friday. Cayden Sharp provided top marks in the meet in the 60 meter dash and long jump, while teammate Mary Ashlyn Paisley earned five points as the event's only competitor in the triple jump.

Overall, the Greenville team collected 23 points to finish second of the six teams competing.

Sharp completed the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.00 seconds, and she reached a distance of 5.18 meters (17 feet-0 inches) in the long jump.

Paisley produced a leap of 8.21 meters (26-11.25) in the triple jump.

Sharp also gave Greenville three points in the 60 meter hurdles with her time of 9.38 seconds.

Sharp's times in the 60 meter dash and 60 meter hurdles were lifetime bests. She is ranked fifth in NCAA Division III in the 60 and is third in the 60 hurdles. Sharp's position in the long jump is number eight in NCAA D-III. She is also ranked 10th in the 200 from her first meet of the season and 12th in the high jump.

The Panthers produced four fourth place positions, each accomplishment earning one point.

Alexa Seger finished fourth in the 60 with a time of 8.34 seconds.

Hannah Williams achieved a fourth place position in the 800 by completing the race in 2:42.09, and Olivia Mansfield's 5:47.22 time in the mile run was also fourth.

Hailey Underwood cleared a height of 1.42 meters (4-7.75) in the high jump as she received fourth place.

Another notable finish was obtained by Tawny Rodriguez whose distance of 11.49 meters (37-8.5) ranks 11th in the NCAA D-III. She was fifth in the event at Principia.

The Panthers will resume their season at DePauw on Friday, Feb. 5, in a two-day meet.
