Women's track and field reascends to top perch with SLIAC championship

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's track and field team returned to the top of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after a two year absence when they finished on top for the 2021 championship. Greenville cruised to an 84 point victory, compiling 263 points during this weekend's event.

Cayden Sharp came away with the SLIAC Field Athlete of the Year award after winning five gold medals, one silver, one bronze, and another gold in the 4x100 relay event.

Sharp won the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump.

Sharp's time of 12.54 seconds in the 100 meters is a new championship time while her distance of 37 feet-0.25 inches in the triple jump is also a record.

Tawny Rodriguez led the way in throwing events, picking up a win in the shot put and discus. Her mark of 41-7 in the shot put and 125-2 in the discus are new championship marks.

The Panthers return to the track on Friday, May 7 at Indiana State.
