Women's track and field paced by Sharp at NCCAA nationals

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's track and field team secured the sixth place finish in a field of 18 teams at the NCCAA national championships running Wednesday through Friday. The Panthers combined to earn five All-American accolades.

Cayden Sharp was the field athlete of the meet, and she had a part in collecting 37 of Greenville's 65 points. Sharp collected four All-American awards.

Sharp started the meet with a second place finish in the heptathlon, falling just two points shy of a national championship with 4066 points. She was strongest in the 100 meter hurdles with a winning time of 15.44 seconds and 784 points. She also posted the best marks of the heptathletes in the 200 meter dash, 800 meter run, high jump, and long jump

Sharp was the silver medalist in the triple jump, taking second with a jump of 11.61 meters (38 feet-1.25 inches).

Sharp took third in the 100 meter hurdles, completing the race in 15.10 seconds.

Sharp was third in the long jump as well with a distance of 5.32 meters (17-5.5).

She also finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.62 meters (5-3.75). She cleared the top height but fell to the fourth position in a jump off after it took her two attempts to surpass 1.52 meters.

The 4x100 meter relay team comprised or Sharp, Alexa Seger, Amari Hurn, and Haniah Davis recorded a time of 49.73 seconds in their fifth place performance.

Tawny Rodriguez finished with a distance of 38.14 meters (125-1) in the discus, taking third.

Alexis Roberts, Hannah Williams, Olivia Mansfield, and Alyssa Comer teamed up for a time of 4:21.79 and a fourth place placement in the 4x400 meter relay.

Aryn Scott gave the Panthers four points in the standings, placing fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:42.96.

In the 4x800 meter relay, Williams, Mansfield, Leah Brown, and Comer were fifth in 10:16.05.

Hailey Underwood was fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters (4-11.75).

Alexa Seger earned two points for Greenville with a seventh place finish in the 100 meter dash as she recorded a time of 12.65 seconds.

Zoe Ray went to the finals of the triple jump and ended seventh with a distance of 9.92 meters (32-6.5).

Hannah Williams was the eighth place winner in the 1500 meter run, clocking a time of 5:07.84.

The Panthers will continue their season with a handful of competitors that will participate in the NCAA qualifier at North Central on Wednesday and Thursday.
