Women's track and field receives national championship from Sharp in sixth place team finish at NCCAA nationals

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The women's indoor track and field team collected 39 points, taking the sixth place team finish at the NCCAA national championships at Cedarville. Cedarville was the winner of the team title with 231 points.

Greenville's scoring was headlined by a national championship performance from Cayden Sharp in the pentathlon. Sharp earned 3127 points, winning the event by 441 points. Sharp had the best effort of the pentathlon competitors in four of the five events - shot put, long jump, high jump, and 60 meter hurdles. Her teammate Abbi Thomason finished seventh with 2000 points.

Katieanna Williams and Sara Yakana went 3-4 in the triple jump. Katieanna Williams had an attempt of 10.86 meters (35 feet-7.75 inches) for third place, and Yakana was fourth with a distance of 10.77 meters (35-4).

The 4x200 meter relay team completed their race in 1:53.20 which was good for fifth place. Taylor Tucker, Alexa Seger, Kiki Boscolo, and Yakana were members of the relay.

Olivia Mansfield, Hannah Williams, Keiko Palen, and Leah Brown provided a fifth place finish in the 4x800 meter relay, clocking a time of 10:39.89.

Alexis Roberts, Hannah Williams, Vanessa Compton, and Mansfield gave GU a sixth place showing in the 4x400 meter relay, producing a time of 4:32.39.

In the weight throw, Tawny Rodriguez had an attempt of 13.91 meters (45-7.75) for seventh, and Talahiva Talanoa was eighth with a try of 13.53 meters (44-4.75).

Gretchen Carie provided one point with an eighth place time of 5:44.39 in the one mile run.

The distance medley relay team of Mansfield, Roberts, Hannah Williams, and Carie were eighth in 13:49.20.

The Panthers will return to the track next weekend at Illinois College.
