Women's volleyball falls in two matches on opening night in Iowa

PELLA, Iowa - The women's volleyball team opened their season by dropping a pair of matches at Central (Iowa) on Friday evening. Greenville lost a three set match against St. Catherine before falling in a four set match against Buena Vista.

GU lost to St. Catherine with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 decision in their first match.

The Panthers hit .069 in the contest with 26 kills and 19 errors in 102 attempts. Mia Bonacorsi led GU with nine kills among her 30 swings.

Amanda Hollis paced GU with 12 set assists, and Kaitlin Murray contributed nine set assists and nine digs.

Mia deJesus helped Greenville at the net with two solo blocks and one block assist.

In their second match of the evening, the Panthers pushed Buena Vista to a fourth set before taking a 25-20, 25-15, 20-25, 25-21 loss.

Greenville improved with a .111 hitting percentage, but 25 errors led to their ultimate fate.

Bonacorsi again led GU in kills with 13, and deJesus added nine kills.

Murray and Hollis provided 20 and 17 set assists, respectively.

On the defensive side of the net, Chasity Hill posted 21 digs, and Murray added 17 digs. deJesus totaled one solo block and one block assist. Sacorra Patton and Lainey Hicks each tallied two block assists.

The Panthers (0-2) will continue their opening weekend trip with matches at Grinnell on Saturday.
