Volleyball takes a set from No. 6 WashU but falls in four

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The volleyball team pushed the No. 6 ranked Washington-St. Louis Bears to a fourth set but ultimately fell in a 25-14, 25-18, 24-26, 25-14 decision on Wednesday in H.J. Long Gymnasium before an enthusiastic crowd.

The Panthers had a challenging night on the attack, finishing with a hitting percentage of .078 over 154 attacks. Lainey Hicks provided six kills for the Panthers on 20 swings, ending at .300 in the match.

Mia Bonacorsi was GU's leader with 10 kills on 55 attacks, outdistancing Sacorra Patton in opportunities by just over a two-to-one margin. Patton was second on the team with 27 attacks and tied Hicks for the second most kills with six.

Kaitlin Murray was productive with 19 set assists, and she teamed with Amanda Hollis who added 11 assists at the setter position. Hollis also contributed a team-high two service aces.

The silver lining to the evening for the Panthers was their effort at the net. Greenville ended with three solo blocks and 12 block assists, led by Mia deJesus with one solo and three block assists. Dana DeFreezer contributed two solo blocks and one block assist.

In the back row, Chasity Hill offered 17 digs, and Bonacorsi completed a double-double by adding 10 digs.

The Panthers (4-5) will travel to Blackburn for two matches on Saturday where they are scheduled to face the host and Webster.
