Women's volleyball pushes past Spalding for top SLIAC position with three set win

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The volleyball team celebrated head coach Tom Ackerman on the occasion of his 400th career win and then dropped Spalding from the ranks of the conference's unbeaten in a 25-22, 25-14, 25-19 win on Tuesday night.

In a pregame ceremony emceed by Greenville University President Suzanne Allison Davis, Ackerman's achievements were noted along with tributes from three of his former student-athletes and President Davis.

The Panthers finished with 39 kills and 19 errors on 111 swings in the match, hitting at a rate of .180. GU performed the most effectively in the second set with a 13/6/33/.212 line.

Sacorra Patton posted 12 kills to finish as the team leader, and Mia Bonacorsi ended with 11 kills.

Chasity Hill was the defensive leader with 16 digs, and Bonacorsi completed her double-double with 15 digs.

The Panthers produced one solo block from Mia deJesus and 15 block assists in the victory. Madison Schmidt ended with five block assists, and Lainey Hicks tallied four block assists.

The Panthers (7-5, 3-0 SLIAC) travel to Eureka for a match on Wednesday night.
