Women's volleyball earns two three set wins

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's volleyball team rattled off two 3-0 wins on Wednesday night in H.J. Long Gymnasium to improve their season record to 10-7 and a perfect 7-0 in SLIAC play. Greenville defeated Eureka in the first match and then topped Principia in the second match.

GU's brisk 55 minute opening match ended with a 25-10, 25-11, 25-10 victory over the Red Devils.

The Panthers were led offensively by Abby Grohmann who produced a .440 hitting percentage with 13 kills and two errors in 25 attacks.

Mia Bonacorsi added eight kills and two errors in 15 total attacks for a hitting rate of .400.

Kaitlin Murray provided 16 set assists, and Emma Ratermann contributed 15 set assists.

Greenville finished with 17 service aces in the match. Bonacorsi and Murray each had four, and Chasity Hill, Taryn Russell, and Ratermann all posted three service aces.

The defense was paced by Grohmann and Bonacorsi with eight digs, and Hill added seven digs.

Blanca Garcia-Quilez contributed two block assists.

The Panthers had a near perfect first set in the second match of the night in capturing a 25-8, 25-18, 25-7 win over Principia in 54 minutes.

In the first set, GU had 11 kills among 18 attacks without an error to hit .611 in the set.

Anna Beth Vancil and Russell each finished with seven kills to lead GU, and Bonacorsi posted six kills.

Ratermann took the lead on offense with 18 set assists.

The Panthers compiled 13 service aces in the match, led by Murray, Lucia Garcia, and Ratermann with three.

Garcia paced the defense with 11 digs, and Russell led the way at the net with two block assists.

The Panthers travel to Monmouth on Oct. 6.
