Women's volleyball aims to regroup after 36 match winning streak broken by Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - A conference regular season winning streak of 36 matches that dated back to the spring 2021 season ended on Tuesday night at Fontbonne when the women's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Fontbonne.

The winning streak commenced on March 13, 2021 with a three set victory over Westminster. During the streak, the team also collected conference tournament championships during the spring and fall postseasons in 2021.

GU won three matches of the 36 in the spring 2021, 12 in fall 2021, 14 in fall 2022, and seven in fall 2023.

The match against Fontbonne ended with the Griffins as a 25-15, 25-17, 25-23 winner.

Mia Bonacorsi tried to put the Panthers on her back with 17 kills and seven errors among her 34 swings. She ended with a hitting percentage of .294.

Only reigning SLIAC offensive player of the week Abby Grohmann joined Bonacorsi with as many as eight kills.

Kaitlin Murray posted 15 set assists as she tried to organize the offense.

Bonacorsi was also the leader in digs with 11. Bonacorsi and Taryn Russell combined for a block.

Greenville finished with 33 kills and a kill percentage of .101. They ended the match with 14 kills, four errors, 35 attacks, and a hitting rate of .286 in the final set.

The Panthers (11-8, 7-1 SLIAC) will compete on Wednesday against Rose-Hulman in H.J. Long Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
