GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team split a doubleheader with DePauw on Saturday. The Panthers won the first game 6-4 before dropping a 13-10 decision in the second game.
Game 1
The Panthers got on the scoreboard early in the first game as Shane Olmsted provided a first inning RBI single to give them a 1-0 lead.
DePauw came back to tie the game in the second inning and took a 2-1 lead in the third inning.
Jesse Getz scored a run to tie the game in the bottom of the third when the second baseman misplayed a ball hit by Adam Lamb.
DePauw took a two run advantage with a run in the fourth and fifth innings.
In the bottom of the sixth, Mike Hardin hit a bases clearing double to give the Panthers a 5-4 lead, and Klaiton Wolff tacked on an insurance run with an RBI double.
Jonah Moore was the winning pitcher as he improved to 2-0 with six innings of work. Wolff picked up his second save with a scoreless seventh inning.
Game 2
The second game was a back-and-forth affair as DePauw got the the game started with a run in the top of the first.
Greenville tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI groundout by Travis Ralls that allowed Getz to cross home plate.
DePauw posted two runs in each of the next two innings to claim a 5-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Greenville chipped away at the deficit when an error by the first baseman on a ball hit by Getz allowed Caleb Miles to score. Getz later scored on a wild pitch.
Greenville took a 7-5 lead in the fourth inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Wolff, a wild pitch that scored Hardin, an RBI triple by Danny Strohm, and an RBI single by Getz.
In the fifth inning, Hardin posted an RBI single, Wolff gave Greenville a productive RBI groundout, and Miles produced an RBI single.
The Panthers couldn't hold on to the 10-5 lead as DePauw got three runs in the top of the seventh and five runs in the top of the eighth.
Wolff was the losing pitcher in relief as he gave up three runs, two earned, in two thirds of an inning.
Phillip Reedy started on the mound and went 4.1 innings, allowing five runs.
The Panthers (2-5) travel to Rose-Hulman for a game on Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT.
