GREENVILLE, Ill -- The football team topped a highly favored Northwestern squad on Saturday and displayed its resolve in capturing a 21-15 win.

The Panthers were the first to put points on the scoreboard as Sean Brooks caught a pass from George Harris and took it 83 yards for the touchdown.

Before the end of the quarter, Northwestern scored a touchdown for a slim 7-6 lead.

Eventually, Greenville broke through with another touchdown when Caleb Jackson ran the ball three yards for a TD.  Northwestern scored before the end of the first half and took a 15-12 lead to the intermission.

A defensive second half saw the Panthers take the lead on a three yard carry by Damario Vanover and an extra point by Bradley Stubbs in the third quarter to land on top 19-15.

The Panthers added a safety in the fourth quarter when the ball got away from Northwestern's quarterback and rolled out of the end zone.

The safety made the score 21-15, and the Panthers allowed Northwestern to get the ball back before holding them at bay in the waning minutes of the game.

Greenville was led in rushing by Jonny Pruiett who gained 106 yards on 25 carries.  Vanover took eight handoffs for 71 yards.

George Harris was 7-of-20, recording 128 passing yards.

Greenville's defense was led by Gavin Jordan with six tackles.  Anthony Esquivel added a quarterback sack and teamed with his brother Herman Esquivel to collect another sack.

The Panthers (1-2, 1-1 UMAC) travel to Martin Luther next Saturday for a game at 1 p.m.
