Football topped at Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. — The football team traveled to Eureka on Saturday for a battle with one of the UMAC's leading teams and was defeated 30-19.

Greenville allowed Eureka to take an early 6-0 on a touchdown and missed extra point, but Greenville tied the game at 6-6 when Derek Greifzu caught a 24 yard TD pass from George Harris. The Panther extra point kick was blocked.

Eureka posted 10 unanswered second quarter points to lead 16-6 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Eureka added two more touchdowns, sandwiched around another Harris to Greifzu touchdown pass.

Greenville added a late fourth quarter touchdown as time expired when Sean Brooks snagged a three yard pass from Harris.

Harris completed 13-of-26 passes for 147 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Jonny Pruiett gained 55 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Greifzu collected four passes for 40 yards and rushed five times for 38 yards.

Greenville's defensive effort was led by Anthony Esquivel with 10 tackles, including one and a half for a loss of yards.

Adereio Jones picked off an Eureka pass for an interception and returned it 20 yards. Herman Esquivel gained a fumble recovery.

The Panthers (2-5, 2-4 UMAC) host Westminster on Homecoming next Saturday in Greenville.
