Men's basketball breaks skid with win at Webster

WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. - The losing streak of the men's basketball team has finally come to an end. In Tuesday night's rescheduled game against Webster, the Panthers defeated the Gorloks 109-95.

The teams remained even through the first 11 minutes of the game, being tied 29-all with 8:48 to play in the first half.

Greenville had a 42-41 lead with 4:30 to play in the half, but the Panthers closed the half with a 12-3 spurt to carry a 54-44 lead in to the locker room.

In the second half, the GU lead fell to seven points with 16:05 remaining on the clock, but Greenville pushed the lead back to double figures.

Greenville had a 94-71 advantage with 7:20 remaining, but the Gorloks fought back and cut the lead to 97-92 with 2:29 to play.

Facing a Webster unit that got within striking distance, GU again closed the half on a 12-3 run to win the game.

Greenville's top scorer ended up as Travis Dickey with 19 points, but Jarred Johnson had 18 points to finish close behind. Jarred Johnson also led the Panthers with 10 rebounds.

Kenneth Cooley produced 14 points, and Romello Ball had 13.

Nick Bouye had an 11 point night, and Kaidyn Johnson scored 10 points.

Carlos Crespo managed to add five assists, and Cooley paced Greenville with four steals.

The Panthers (2-18, 1-8 SLIAC) will have to continue to win to improve their position in the conference tournament. First place Fontbonne visits Greenville on Saturday for a game at 3 p.m.
