Men's tennis soundly defeats Olivet

ALBION, Mich. - The men's tennis team opened the indoor portion of their schedule with an 8-1 win against Olivet at Albion on Friday.

The doubles teams opened play for Greenville with three wins, one of which came by default when Olivet did not have six players. In the two doubles matches played, the No. 1 team of Tyler Blume and Mathew Rodriguez joined the No. 2 pairing of Austin Burkhart and Zach Merrill in gaining 8-2 wins.

In singles, No. 2 Blume had a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win, No. 3 Ben Stewart took a 6-0, 6-2 victory, and No. 5 Cecil Burkhart won 6-2, 6-1.

No. 4 Merrill won in a tiebreaker, and No. 1 Austin Burkhart fell short in a tiebreaker.  The No. 6 singles victory went to Greenville by default.

The Panthers (1-0) play Albion on Saturday morning to conclude their trip.
