Men's tennis splits matches in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday in matches hosted by Illinois Wesleyan. Greenville swept Illinois College 9-0 in the first match and lost 6-3 to Illinois Wesleyan in the second match.

The Panthers jumped ahead 3-0 after doubles play in their match against Illinois College with wins by No. 1 Tyler Blume and Mathew Rodriguez, No. 2 Austin Burkhart and Zach Merrill, and No. 3 Brett Barker and Micah Harlan.

No. 1 Burkhart received a win by default, and No. 2 Blume earned a 6-4, 6-3 win. No. 3 Rodriguez, No. 4 Merrill, No. 5 Matt Lehr, and No. 6 Cecil Burkhart also won in straight sets.

In the match against Illinois Wesleyan, Greenville led 2-1 after gaining wins in doubles by No. 2 Burkhart and Merrill and No. 3 Harlan and Lehr.

However, GU only received a win by No. 6 Lehr in singles competition.

The Panthers (3-1) return to action against Gordon on March 9 during Spring Break.
