Men's tennis downs Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The men's tennis team handled Cornell College 8-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers won all three matches in doubles to open the dual meet with a 3-0 lead.

The No. 1 team of Luke Motsinger and Tyler Blume won 8-6, and the No. 2 duo of Austin Burkhart and Zach Merrill were 8-3 winners.

No. 3 Mathew Rodriguez and Matt Lehr won 8-4.

In singles, Greenville captured five matches.

No. 2 Burkhart, No. 3 Blume, NO. 4 Rodriguez, No. 5 Merrill, and No. 6 Thibaut Tignee picked up wins.

Burkhart went to a tiebreaker before winning 4-6, 6-4, 3-1

Blume defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-3 in straight sets.

Rodriguez required a tiebreaker in his 6-1, 1-6, 13-1 win.

Merrill won 6-2, 6-2, and Tignee was a 6-0, 6-3 winner.

The Panthers (2-3) will compete next Friday against Belhaven and Covenant at Covenant.
